Marine Renewables Canada is looking for a driven self-starter to assist our team with planning, logistics and administration for our upcoming 2026 annual conference & exhibition (MRC2026), taking place November 17-19 in Ottawa, Ontario.
ABOUT MARINE RENEWABLES CANADA & THE SECTOR
Marine Renewables Canada is the national association for tidal, offshore wind, wave and river current energy, with a growing membership of technology and project developers, suppliers, utilities, Indigenous organizations, researchers, and communities. The association works to build the sector by advocating for supportive policies, identifying domestic and international business development opportunities for its members, facilitating collaboration amongst its membership and broader ecosystem, providing education and outreach, and disseminating market intelligence. As part of its focus on developing the sector, Marine Renewables Canada is active in catalyzing opportunities for how marine renewable energy can contribute to achieving decarbonization goals through the production of green fuels such as hydrogen, as well as displacement of diesel in remote communities and other marine industries.
The marine renewable energy sector is facing a very exciting and critical time. In the global race to meet decarbonization goals, renewable energy will play an important role – and marine renewable energy offers unique solutions for both climate change and building a sustainable blue economy.

THE POSITION
As the marine renewable energy sector and our association continue to grow, we are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative Events Assistant to join our team as we plan and prepare for MRC2026!
The Events Assistant will play a key role in assisting with the organization and implementation of MRC2026, our association’s largest and most important annual event.
The Events Assistant will gain hands-on experience in event planning, member and industry engagement, and organizational support. This is a dynamic opportunity for someone who is passionate about getting involved in the renewable energy and eager to play an important role in realizing Canada’s marine renewable energy opportunity.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with the development and delivery of MRC2026 and associated networking events.
- Assist with the creation of promotional materials for MRC2026, including social media posts, attendee outreach, and event listings, to ensure maximum engagement and attendance.
- Assist with the day-to-day logistics leading up to and at MRC2026, including registration management, attendee tracking, and providing event support.
- Assist with the development and launch post-event surveys, gathering feedback from participants to assess event success and improve future programming.
- Provide general administrative assistance to the events and member services teams as required.
DESIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be registered as a full-time or part-time student in a post-secondary institution
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of working independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience using communications and social media tools such as X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Canva, etc.
- Experience with or interest in renewable energy, environmental sustainability, or climate change is a strong asset.
- Fluency in English is essential. French is an asset
- Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada

TERMS & WORKING CONDITIONS
- This is a full-time term internship, targeted to begin by September 14, 2026 and ending December 4, 2026. This is a funded position and is contingent on Marine Renewables Canada receiving funding approval.
- This is a remote position, but candidates must be based in a location where Marine Renewables Canada’s activities are most focused. As an organization headquartered in Halifax with a national scope, we are dedicated to supporting and advancing our members and initiatives across Canada. Ideally, we are seeking candidates located in Ottawa or Atlantic Canada. However, selection will ultimately be based on the best fit for the position.
- As a remote position, this role offers flexibility for individuals who thrive working from home while excelling at developing and maintaining productive relationships with their team. The successful candidate must have a suitable home office setup, including access to a computer, internet, and necessary office supplies.
- Compensation will be based on skills and experience. Marine Renewables Canada offers a compensation package which includes flexible working hours and paid holidays.
- Occasional travel within Canada may be required.
- Additional hours, or time outside of the normal work hours, may be required in order to meet operational requirements of planning and delivering specific projects and events at specific times of the year.
