Marine Renewables Canada adds industry expertise to 2016 Board of Directors
Marine Renewables Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of four new members to its Board of Directors. The new directors bring experience in the marine renewable energy industry and unique perspectives that will add to the national leadership of the association.
The new members of the Marine Renewables Canada Board of Directors are:
Tim Brownlow is the Director of Industry Relations at Atlantic Towing. Tim is a government relations and business development executive with over thirty five years of experience in the offshore oil and gas sector. He began his offshore career in the oil and natural gas industry in 1978, and then joined the Nova Scotia Government in 1990, holding positions as Petroleum Operations Officer, Director of Benefits & Training and Chief Advisor for the Department of Natural Resources and the Offshore Energy Office.
Tim has served on numerous boards and committees, including: The Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board, the Premier’s Energy Advisory Council, Chairman of the Offshore/Onshore Technologies Association of Nova Scotia, the Atlantic Energy Roundtable, seconded to the Grampian Regional Council (Aberdeen, Scotland), Associate Member for the World Energy Cities Council, and former Co-Chair for the Federal/Provincial Regulatory Review Committee to mention a few.
Troy Garnett is Director Business Development at Aecon Group Inc. Aecon is Canada’s largest publicly traded construction and Infrastructure Company. As Director of Business Development, Troy brings a wealth of experience in Sales, Corporate Relationships and Communications within the Energy and Marine Sectors. Before Troy joined Aecon he was the Regional Manager for Westlund, an Industrial Supply Company, based here in Atlantic Canada.
Troy shares the Board’s vision to continue to build a sustainable marine renewable industry within Canada and looks forward to engaging with fellow members, their organizations, and academic institutions in his pursuit to move the industry forward.
Marius Lengkeek is owner at Lengkeek Vessel Engineering which he started in 1981. He has contracted services to Evans, Yeatman and Endal a naval architecture firm, Seaforth Fednav, Atlantic Searoute Line/Oceanex, Secunda Marine Services/McDermott, Coast Guard, Marine Atlantic, Atlantic Towing and different shipyards in the area, working on many types of different vessels and projects.
Internationally, Marius has worked for a number of European Seismic Vessel operators, the Ocean Drilling Program, University of Rhode Island, Ocean Rig and TransOcean. In Rwanda, Africa, Marius was the technical and project manager for the Rwanda Energy Company, where he was supervising the construction of a pilot plant to extract Methane from Lake Kivu to fuel power generators.
Marius brings direct recent experience in marine renewable energy as Lengkeek Vessel Engineering has been working with Emera, Tocardo, and FORCE for various naval architect and design services.
Sue Molloy, PhD, (Naval Architecture & Ocean engineering) is the General Manager and President of Black Rock Tidal Power (BRTP). Dr. Molloy is an active member of the tidal power community, performing some consulting work in addition to her BRTP role, serving on International Standards committees (IEC 62600-2 & -300) and regional committees such as FERN.
Dr. Molloy is an expert in power propulsion and modelling and has applied that expertise to her work at BRTP and in tidal power research projects led as an adjunct professor at Dalhousie University. Dr. Molloy also teaches at Dalhousie University and is a research fellow of the Cape Breton University Verschuren Centre.
Their terms will officially begin on January 1, 2016.
Marine Renewables Canada would also like to thank the following outgoing members of the Board of Directors for their contributions and leadership: Don Bryan (MacArtney Inc.), Graham Curren (JD Irving Ltd.), Scot Merriam (SRM Projects), and Russell Stothers (Clean Current Power Systems).
