Marine Renewables Canada Welcomes Anastasia Smolentseva as Senior Director, Communications

Halifax (Nova Scotia), January 5, 2026 – Marine Renewables Canada (MRC), the national association advancing wave, tidal, river current, and offshore wind energy, is pleased to announce the appointment of Anastasia Smolentseva as Senior Director, Communications. 

Anastasia brings nearly 15 years of strategic communications experience, including eight years in Canada’s renewable energy sector. With a strong track record in developing impactful communication strategies, she will lead efforts to elevate MRC’s brand profile, enhance industry storytelling, expand public understanding of marine renewable energy, and increase national and international visibility for the sector.

Anastasia’s leadership will play a key role in supporting MRC’s mission during this pivotal time for marine renewables.” 

Prior to joining MRC, Anastasia managed bilingual communications at the Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA), led brand development and launch initiatives for the Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CanREA), and served as Director of Communications at WaterPower Canada. Her work has consistently focused on translating complex industry issues into accessible, inspiring messages that drive awareness and support.

Anastasia holds a Master’s degree in Communication from the University of Ottawa and brings a global perspective informed by experiences in Siberia, San Francisco, Moscow, and Canada.
