DESCRIPTION:Join Marine Renewables Canada (MRC) for a free in-person information session on May 28th in conjunction with the Port of Sydney’s Port Days focused on opportunities in offshore wind spurred from regional and global development. \nAs offshore wind development advances globally and in Atlantic Canada\, Unama’ki – Cape Breton is emerging as a region of significant interest. With areas in the region’s offshore identified as priority areas for offshore wind activity—and the region’s advantages in port infrastructure\, strong marine capabilities\, and skilled workforce\, Unama’ki – Cape Breton is well-positioned to play a central role in this growing industry. \nThrough presentations and discussion\, this session will explore findings from the Atlantic Canada Wind Energy Supply Chain Assessment\, commissioned by MRC and led by Xodus Group. MRC has delved deeper into the Brazilian market specifically\, and boarder LATAM region\, to gather market intelligence and better understand market potential and entry points for MRC members and Atlantic Canadian companies. \nWith support from Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA)\, MRC has commissioned a study to ascertain the realistic commercial opportunities for Canadian firms in the LATAM OSW development markets\, with specific emphasis on Brazil\, and align those with the capacity and competitive capabilities of the Atlantic Canadian service and supply chain. This study is meant to provide specific actionable advice that can improve the chances of commercial success by Canadian industrial supply chain companies to capture contracts on commercial terms in support of the development of the Brazilian OSW sector and provide a broader overview of other countries in LATAM that hold potential for OSW development. \nAs a follow-up activity to this study\, MRC will be leading a mission to Brazil in June 2025. Sean and his family relocated to his hometown of Halifax\, Nova Scotia in August\, 2024\, from which he continues to provide local and global support for the development of early stage offshore wind projects.    \n

Offshore wind is an exciting and rapidly growing industry. However\, for this industry to thrive\, it is essential to ensure harmonious coexistence with other ocean users and uses. \nJoin us for an insightful session featuring Dr. Alison Bates\, Associate Professor of Environmental Studies at Colby College in Maine\, who brings extensive expertise in environmental policy and marine spatial planning. Dr. Bates will highlight some of the lessons learned from her work in offshore wind and co-existence\, providing valuable knowledge and perspective that can inform the responsible development of offshore wind. \nMeet the speaker 👇 \nAlison Bates is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies at Colby College in Maine. Dr. Bates researches social acceptance of renewable energy systems and implements an equity and justice framework to inform decision-making in the energy transition. Her research includes multiple technologies including offshore wind\, community solar\, post-disaster energy grid resilience\, and energy efficiency. More recently\, she has focused on floating wind development\, and the possibilities for technical solutions to social challenges with floating wind. She has worked on state and national energy policy with the Maine Governor’s Energy Office and with U.S. Senator Coons to develop markets and policies for renewable energy infrastructure along the Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf and in the Gulf of Maine. DESCRIPTION:MRC’s upcoming Ask an Expert webinar will delve into the complex world of regulatory frameworks\, focusing on the policies and laws that guide the development\, deployment\, and management of offshore wind farms. \nThis time\, the webinar will feature two speakers – providing attendees with a unique opportunity to explore and compare different ways of regulating offshore wind\, while also gaining insight into how Canada’s approach fits within the global context. \nGet ready to dive into the fascinating world of offshore wind regulation with expert guests\, Jon Brady\, Deputy Director of the Renewable and Electrical Energy Division in the Department of Natural Resources and Gordon McIntosh\, Chairman of Aberdeen International Associates (AIA). \nMeet the speakers 👇 \nJon Brady serves as Deputy Director of the Renewable and Electrical Energy Division at Canada’s Department of Natural Resources. He leads the Offshore Renewables team\, driving legislative\, regulatory\, and policy development for offshore renewable energy projects. Notably\, Jon spearheads efforts such as Bill C-49\, expanding the mandate of Offshore Petroleum Boards to regulate these projects in Canada’s offshore areas. His team is also developing regulations under the Canadian Energy Regulator Act for federal offshore areas. With two decades of experience\, Jon has shaped federal legislative frameworks for renewable energy projects and possesses expertise in wind\, solar\, geothermal\, tidal energy\, and transmission lines. \nGordon McIntosh has over 40 years of experience in the energy sector and has been involved with Offshore Wind since 2001. He co-founded Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group (AREG) to bolster the region’s economy by integrating renewables alongside North Sea Oil and Gas. As a former Director of the Aberdeen Bay Offshore Wind Farm\, Gordon oversaw project planning\, consent\, and delivery. He now advises various stakeholders globally\, spanning governments\, developers\, supply chains\, and local communities. At AIA\, Gordon consults for Offshore Wind developers like SSE and CIP. He’s recently advised Nova Scotia’s Provincial Government on Offshore Wind Licensing and Power-to-X. AIA serves as advisors to Canada’s Ocean Supercluster\, leveraging local supply chains through organizations like MRC. \nGordon’s extensive career includes roles as Deputy Minister of Natural Resources for Newfoundland and Labrador and Director of Economic Development for Aberdeen City. He remains a Director at AREG\, holds a Visiting Professorship at Robert Gordon University\, and previously led the World Energy Cities Partnership as Secretary General.

DESCRIPTION:The French version follows/La version française suivra \nMarine Renewables Canada (MRC) is leading a mission to the 2023 ACP Offshore WINDPOWER Conference & Exhibition\, taking place this October 3-4\, 2023 in Boston.   \nOffshore wind is a once-in-a-generation opportunity and its momentum forward continues leading into ACP’s Offshore WINDPOWER Conference & Exhibition this fall. The event has cultivated a dedicated and thriving global community of top developers and experts. As more steel goes in the water\, this event will only continue to grow in value and scope. \nDid you know? \n\nPresident Biden’s goal of 30 GW of Offshore Wind deployed by 2030 will trigger more than $12 billion per year in capital investment in projects on both U.S. coasts.\nOffshore wind development could attract $57 billion of investment into the U.S. economy by 2030.\nThere are more than 35\,000 megawatts (MW) of offshore wind potential under development on the East Coast\, and there is room for further opportunity.\nStates have established nearly 74\,000 MW of offshore wind procurement targets to date.\nDevelopers plan to bring 11\,500 MW of offshore wind online by 2026 by developing 13 offshore wind projects.\n\n\nRegistration to participate in this mission is now open – scroll down for the outline of mission benefits/activities and the registration link. \n**Travel funding for companies – MRC has secured partial travel funding through Global Affairs Canada for MRC member companies participating in this mission. The company must be a MRC member at the Champion\, Leader or Full category\, and a Canadian company –  CLICK HERE to review the Marine Renewables Canada International Travel Funding Policy and qualifications. Travel funding is restricted to one person per company. This funding covers 50% of your flight (up to a max)\, $200 per day for hotel/per diem\, and ground travel. Your conference registration is included with your mission fee.\n**Funding is limited and will work on a first come (registered)\, first serve basis.    \n\nMission Benefits & Activities: \nMission Dates: October 2-5\, 2023 – The conference takes place on Oct 3 & 4 but we are working on both pre and post conference activities for our delegation that would take place on Oct 2 and Oct 5.  These activities include 1-2 port tours (New Bedford\, Port of Providence) and an in-country briefing session. \n\nBooth space in the exhibition – We have secured a 400 sq ft booth space in the exhibition to allow visibility and networking and to provide a means for basic company promotion (via company brochures and material at the booth).  The booth will also have a few tables & chairs for meeting space and will be staffed by MRC at all times.\nCanada virtual booklet (QR code) and booth slides/videos – you will be listed in the virtual “Canada Booklet” that will developed for this mission and will include mission participants company profile\, logo\, contact and website.  You will also have the opportunity to have a 5-slide presentation/short video looping on-screen at the booth.\nACP Conference delegate pass – as part of the MRC mission\, you will receive one (1) full conference delegate pass ($2085US value)\nConference B2B – As a conference full delegate\, you will have access to the conference B2B platform that will allow you to connect with and set meetings with other conference attendees / key industry players.\nMission Consultant – although we are not contracting a “matchmaker” for this mission\, we will be contracting a consultant with expertise in the US offshore wind industry and market entry to assist companies in preparing for the mission\, as well as onsite.  This consultant will provide market intel and advice to participating companies and can assist with identifying possible connections.  Some assistance may be given with introductions / making these connections\, but that will not be the primary responsibility of the consultant.\nPrivate meeting room at conference venue – in addition to the meeting space at the booth\, we have secured a private meeting room that the conference venue that can be used by mission participants.\nDelegate briefing session – We will host and in-country (informal) briefing session (likely a breakfast or dinner) that will allow all mission participants the opportunity to meet and network\, and allow MRC staff an opportunity to review mission details and activities with participants. The regional Trade Commissioners will also be invited to attend this briefing.\nSide-Events – Site Tours & Canada Reception – We are working with the Canadian Consulate in Boston and other groups (New Bedford Ocean cluster/Port of NB & Rhode Island/Port of Providence) to organize group tours and events around the perimeter of the conference\, and are working on hosting a Canada reception on the evening of Oct 3rd. The US offshore wind industry is growing and so are the opportunities to get involved.
